The Sussex rural hideaway of White Eagle Lodge in Kingston was a 1970’s architect’s dream with a quirky upside-down layout and magnificent views over the South Downs. But the years had taken their toll and it was time to change this weathered retro property into a 5 bedroom ultra-modern family home.

This Brooks and Gill project represented several months of intensive refurbishment and extension work, with plans drawn up to convert the property into a contemporary home with 5 bedrooms, 3 modern bathrooms, a family living/dining area and a kids’ playroom. The double garage was demolished to allow for the 2 storey extension which was to incorporate new bedrooms and a wine cellar to be dug our of the bank at the rear of the house; for this part of the project a huge section of the roof had to raised and extended.

The front of the property was transformed with new rendering on the lower section and modern vertical larch cladding on the upper section, along with a beautiful first floor balcony comprising hardwood timber decking and a steel and glass balustrade. Major internal works were carried out in the re-design with the removal and replacement of internal walls and new re-plastering and decoration throughout.

The project was completed very much to the client’s satisfaction and he gratefully relocated his family from his temporary mobile home into the newly-revamped White Eagle Lodge. With stylish contemporary design and top quality workmanship, this property was catapulted from it’s weary 1970s roots into a prestigious bang up-to-date 5 bedroom dream home!

“Ben and his team created a fantastic family home for us with the minimum of stress – their attention to detail, above and beyond the basic construction work, was very much appreciated”
